I was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus in 1980. Lupus has been a disease of ups and downs for me and my family. There are so few drugs approved for the treatment of lupus that it makes managing the disease extraordinarily challenging. The drugs that are available often have numerous and sometimes severe side effects. May is Lupus Awareness Month. In honor of this, I have painted Tapestry of Love and Light incorporating the lupus awareness symbolic color purple and colors that offer hope to all who suffer from lupus.
