Here in Florida, late August through September marks the peak of hurricane season. These powerful storms gather strength as they travel toward land across the warm shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The storms block out the sun, darkening the skies and drenching the earth with heavy rains. It was on just such a day when I was longing for the sun to shine again that I began work on this painting.
